CFPB warns non-bank financial businesses about data security
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau published a circular on Aug. 10 explaining that non-bank financial firms – such as fintech companies and credit reporting agencies – may violate the Consumer Financial Protection Act’s prohibition on “unfair acts or practices” if they fail to protect sensitive consumer financial information. IBM Security: Data breaches expensive for financial institutions
IBM Security commissioned a 12-month study of 550 organizations across multiple sectors as part of an annual report on data breaches, and the results were released earlier this week. The cost of dealing with a data breach for financial institutions rose by $250,000 compared to a similar study conducted in 2020-2021. Financial Stability Board releases progress report on climate-related financial risk
The Financial Stability Board earlier this month issued a progress report on its work to implement its roadmap for addressing climate-related financial risk. Specifically, the report noted that significant progress has been made toward establishing global baseline climate reporting standards, with the newly established International Sustainability Standards Board issuing exposure drafts addressing climate and general sustainability-related disclosure statements. Jeremy has been in charge of the Oklahoma Banker newspaper as well as the OBA website and other member communications since joining the OBA in January 2002. A native of Hartshorne and a 1997 graduate of the University of Oklahoma, he enjoys meeting and talking with the different people he encounters while doing his job. Previously, Jeremy worked as a sports writer in Lawton and, for the four years prior to joining the OBA, Lubbock, Texas, where he decided the town wasn’t big enough for both him and Bobby Knight. When not working, Jeremy loves to hike, read, watch football, baseball and boxing and teach journalism to high school and college students. And, if you ask, there’s a good chance he will regale you with the story about being interviewed on ESPN by Chris Fowler.
