Week of Oct. 19

In This Issue…

From Adrian’s desk …

By Adrian Beverage
OBA President & CEO

Just some random tidbits that might be of interest to our bankers this week!

•        •         •

I took part in an interim study at the state Capitol about the “banking deserts” in Oklahoma on Monday. The Journal Record had a nice recap of it.

Credit unions are attempting to position themselves as the “fix” for these so-called deserts, but I think we did a good job fighting back against that silly narrative.

We’re exactly two weeks away from the elections. With that in mind, I’m excited to announce we will host both the Democratic and Republican nominees for governor on a Zoom meeting on the morning of Oct. 29. All OBA members are welcome to join the call.

Details are in the story below. I hope to see as many on there as possible to represent our industry!

I waited until the wee hours of Sunday morning only to watch the quarterback who played for Nebraska the past two seasons, come into a game and BEAT Nebraska.

College football is dumb.

Banking associations request comment period extension concerning Genius Act

The comment period for two Federal Reserve proposals related to the agency’s implementation of the Genius Act needs to be extended, banking associations urged the Fed in a recent comment letter.

The ABA, ICBA, Consumer Bankers Association and the Bank Policy Institute sent a request for a 60-day extension of the comment periods related to “Implementing the Federal Reserve Board’s responsibilities under the Genius Act” and “Application procedures for board-supervised insured depository institutions seeking approval for a subsidiary to issue payment stablecoins.”

The comment periods currently are scheduled to close on Nov. 30. The request would extend the deadline to Jan. 29.

OBA to host Zoom forum with gubernatorial candidates

The OBA is proud to host the Democratic and Republican gubernatorial candidates in a virtual meeting next week!

Cyndi Munson and Mike Mazzei, the two major-party candidates who will contend in the election later this month, will be part of a Zoom meeting open to all OBA-member bankers on Thursday, Oct. 29. The meeting will open with Munson at 9:30 a.m., and follow with Mazzei at 10 a.m. It will be hosted by OBA President and CEO Adrian Beverage, who will ask questions of both candidates.

While the floor won’t be open for questions from our guests on the call, we encourage our bankers to forward any they may have for either candidate to Adrian (adrian@oba.com) by noon on Monday.

This is a unique opportunity, exclusively for OBA members, to show both candidates how involved the banking industry is at the state government level. The more we have on the call, the better – so invite others at your bank!

The Zoom link information is below. Again, a reminder: this is for OBA-member bankers ONLY. All others will be removed from the Zoom call. No RSVP is required.
