Just some random tidbits that might be of interest to our bankers this week!

I’m heading to Chicago this afternoon, alongside our general counsel Scott Thompson, for a conference. So just a quick update from me today.

•        •         •

Speaking of conferences, the ABA Annual Convention is just around the corner. It’s on Oct. 25-27 in Salt Lake City, Utah. There’s usually tons of good content, and I particularly look forward to hearing from Jonathan Martin, with POLITICO, on the latest political races to keep an eye on as election day looms.

You’ve gotta play 60 minutes, and I guess my Cornhuskers forgot that. After taking a 17-6 lead with just a little over 12 minutes left in its game against Indiana, Nebraska allowed 119 yards worth of touchdown passes that culminated into a heart-breaking 20-17 loss.

I hate college football. I love college football. I hate college football. I love college football …

Survey asks about community banks’ plans for digital assets

The Conference of State Bank Supervisors’ 2026 community bank survey released last week showed double-digit shares of community bankers intend to offer tokenized deposits and stablecoin solutions within the next year.

CSBS asked about bankers’ offering of tokenized deposits and stablecoin services. While roughly 8 in 10 community bankers said they did not offer these services and did not plan to in the next year, 18% said they would offer tokenized deposits within the next year, and 16% said the same thing about stablecoin solutions.

Approximately 4% of community banks currently offer tokenized deposits, but half of these said they planned to exit within the next year. Three percent of bankers said they offered stablecoin solutions, but two-thirds of these said they also planned to exit this product offering.

OBA education corner …

Everyone misses when MTV played music, but some of us also miss when its less-cool cousin, VH1, played music. Anyone wanting to chill back in the 90s could flip it on and be entertained by the inoffensive sounds of Annie Lennox, Bonnie Raitt or Jon Secada. Don’t even get us started on how awesome Insomniac Music Theater was for us night owls back in the day! So, while wondering if you’re Strong Enough or trying to Save the Best for Last, make sure to keep up with what’s happening on the continuing education front, including the following:

  • 2026 Advanced BSA/AML, Oct. 21-Tulsa; Oct. 22-Oklahoma City — This practical, focused one-day program examines what is changing, what today’s banks are actually seeing, and what BSA/AML professionals should be doing now.
  • W-9s and W-9BENs, Oct. 22, webinar — The FATCA rules affecting foreign financial institutions also affects US financial institutions and your job as a withholding agent.
  • Loan Documentation 101 – 2-Part Series, Oct. 27-28, webinar — Learn about basic loan documentation principles and practices under Revised Article 9 for collateral.
  • Marketing and Advertising Compliance – 3-Part Series, Oct. 27/30/Nov. 3, webinar — These will provide an in-depth discussion of rules, best practices and recommendations
  • OBA/Forvis Mazars Executive Banking Symposium, Nov. 12, Oklahoma City — This event delivers timely insights on economic trends, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, regulatory developments and strategic leadership.
  • 2026 Fall Human Resources Seminar, Nov. 13, Oklahoma City — We will revisit the fundamentals, discuss important legal and regulatory developments, explore emerging workforce trends and share practical strategies that can be applied within your organization.
