Just some random tidbits that might be of interest to our bankers this week!

Just a short piece today as we’re knee-deep in our Annual Washington Visit right now! The trip has already been a success and we still have several meetings left on our agenda for today.
I wanted to share a few pictures that Megan has taken so far!

The Big Red stayed undefeated with a big win over North Dakota this past weekend. It was a bit funny as earlier in the week Jeremy and I were trying to decipher if this “Dakota” was the “good Dakota” that seems to pull an upset every year. Upon further review, THIS wasn’t THAT “Dakota” (which is actually “North Dakota STATE“) but I didn’t let any of this or that ruin an undefeated start to the season for my ‘Huskers!
Agencies raise asset threshold for 18-month exam cycle
Federal banking agencies (Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Federal Reserve Board, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) issued an interim final rule last week that doubles the asset threshold for small insured depository institutions to be eligible for an extended 18-month on-site examination cycle.
Eligibility for the 18-month cycle does not apply automatically. To qualify, a bank with fewer than $6 billion in total assets must also:
- Be well capitalized under the prompt corrective action framework;
- Have received a CAMELS management component rating of 1 or 2 at its most recent examination;
- Have received at its most recent examination a composite rating of 1 or, if the IDI has $200 million or less in total assets, 1 or 2;
- Not be subject to a formal enforcement proceeding or order; and
- Not have undergone a change in control during the prior 12-month period.
New tool available for state examiners to assess AI risks
The Conference of State Bank Supervisors released a new tool to help state examiners understand and assess risks from artificial intelligence at financial institutions.
The CSBS AI Supervisory Framework is an optional tool that state examiners can use to assess AI-related risks at state-chartered banks and state-licensed financial institutions, as well as determine when a deeper review may be appropriate, according to the organization. It is designed to consider each institution’s size, complexity, risk profile and use of AI
Financial institutions can also use the framework to assess their own AI programs, establish sound AI governance and risk management, and prepare for examinations, CSBS said.
Each state financial regulatory agency will determine the extent to which this framework is incorporated into its supervisory programs.
Deadline this week: OBA Emerging Leaders Academy taking applications
Take note the OBA 2026-27 Emerging Leaders Academy is currently accepting applications. We’re looking for the best and brightest bankers who seek to sharpen their leadership skills.
