It’s our last Contact Banker visit of the year at the state Capitol today, so just a quick update from me since I’m kinda on the run! We have a large group today, and have had good turnout all session as part of the program. While this is our last one for this legislative session, please think about joining us next year! It’s important your representatives and senators see you care enough about what they’re doing to visit in person!

Agencies issue revised risk management model guidance
The federal banking agencies rescinded existing risk management model guidance late last week and replaced it with revised principles that they said better account for a financial institution’s size and complexity.
The new guidance by the Federal Reserve, FDIC and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency “clarifies that model risk management should be tailored commensurately to the size, complexity and model risk profile of a banking organization,” according to a statement. The revised guidance highlights sound principles for effective model risk management, and it discusses considerations specific to vendor and other third-party products.
The guidance does not establish enforceable standards or prescriptive requirements, and non-compliance will not result in supervisory criticism, the agencies said.
Oklahoma City banker elected as OBA Emerging Leaders chair
Darian Shaw, with Bank7, in Oklahoma City, was elected by a vote of his peers to be the incoming OBA Emerging Leaders chair.
Shaw will serve a two-year term and will work closely with OBA staff to continue to build and direct the OBA Emerging Leaders program. The chair will also serve as a voting member on the OBA Board of Directors.
Shaw has been in the banking industry for 6 years and will be an upcoming 2026 graduate of the OBA Emerging Leaders Academy. He currently serves as compliance analyst for Bank7.

This year’s event will feature chats with FDIC Chairman Travis Hill, as well as visits with Oklahoma gubernatorial candidates Gentner Drummond and Charles McCall III!
The connections are real, the conversations are waiting and your name tag is practically begging for a lanyard. We may not have the same kitschy roadside attractions as Route 66 (blue whales, buried Cadillacs and round barns!), but we do have the ultimate gathering this side of the Golden Driller! Register now to secure your spot!
OBA education corner …
The band Heart lived two lives. In the 70s, it was a classic rock band featuring monster guitar riffs on songs like “Barracuda” and “Crazy On You.” In the mid-80s, however, Ann and Nancy Wilson remade the band into a more pop-oriented, hairspray-using hit machine featuring songs like “Alone” and “Never“. Either way, they have always been a good listen! Don’t get caught up in all These Dreams, however, and forget to keep up with what’s happening on the continuing education front, including the following:
- Advanced Commercial Lending Workshops, May 1-Advanced Tax Analysis for the Banker, Oklahoma City — These seminars will explore multiple models of both business and personal (business owner) cash flow analyses as well as provide attendees with several advanced tax-return concepts and related analyses to help them more effectively work with their business customers.
- Debit Cards – Everything You Need To Know, May 5, webinar — This session provides a comprehensive overview of the regulatory compliance requirements tied to issuing, servicing and overseeing the institution’s debit card program, along with key internal control practices and practical fraud prevention strategies.
- Branch Manager Best Practices: Leading An Exceptional Branch, May 7, webinar — Through real-world banking scenarios, reflection and peer discussion, managers will leave with clear, actionable tools they can immediately apply in their branches.
- Service Member Issues, May 8, webinar — An in-depth discussion of the legal and compliance issues surrounding military customers, including the Servicemember Civil Relief Act (SCRA) and Military Lending Act (MLA).
