Just some random tidbits that might be of interest to our bankers this week!

•        •         •

This week is one of my favorite events of the year: The Oklahoma Bankers Hall of Fame induction ceremony. On Thursday, we will welcome four bankers in the hall: Brud Baker, Sandy Bracken, Gary Huckabay and Lee Symcox. Each of these bankers represent decades of hard work in our industry and are all incredible additions to the ever-expanding hall of fame.

I hope to see you at the ceremony at the Oklahoma History Center!

You know what ISN’T hall-of-fame worthy? Whatever the heck that was Nebraska put on its football field Saturday. A 40-16 defeat to Iowa left us with three losses in our last four games. At least we’ll have a bowl game to try to end the season on a high note.

State Banking Board reduces assessment; OCC’s holds steady

State Bank Commissioner Mick Thompson announced last week the Oklahoma State Banking Board approved the largest reduction ever to assessments paid by Oklahoma state-chartered banks.

For 2026, the standard assessment rate will be discounted by 75% for each bank with assets totaling less than $1 billion, by 40% for each bank with assets at least $1 billion but less than $2 billion, and by 30% for banks with $2 billion or more in assets. The commissioner explained the sliding scale discount should result in a comparable overall reduction for all institutions because the standard rate for larger institutions is already significantly reduced as asset size grows larger.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency announced Monday it will maintain its current assessment rates in 2026 for national-chartered banks.

The OCC did reduce its assessment rates in September. For the Sept. 30, 2025, semiannual assessment, the OCC reduced the rates in the general assessment fee schedule by 30% for assets up to $40 billion and 22% for assets above $40 billion. It also reduced the rates in the independent trust and independent credit card assessment fee schedules by 22%.

Agencies seek comment on Call Report’s regulatory burden

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Federal Reserve and the FDIC requested public feedback Monday about the regulatory reporting burden for financial institutions that file a Call Report.

The agencies are seeking answers to 21 questions related to the Call Report, such as which items in the report are the most time-consuming and whether the agencies should raise the eligibility criteria for filing a short form. The agencies are asking that institutions share the questions with individuals responsible for preparing the Call Report and with those who use the report’s data in their current processes.

Comments are due by Jan. 30, 2026, and can be submitted to any of the agencies.
