Just some random tidbits that might be of interest to our bankers this week!

Over the past week, I attended the funerals of two legends of Oklahoma banking: Steve Burrage and John V. Anderson.
While obviously heartbroken at the passing of these two giants, it was good to see and hear so many people pay their respects.
I encourage everyone to read more about Burrage and Anderson from their respective inductions into the Oklahoma Bankers Hall of Fame.

Normally, I stick to my love of college sports in this portion of my weekly article, but I’d be absolutely remiss to not tip my hat to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Only one win to go for the state’s first-ever major professional league championship!
Agencies seek comment on fighting payments fraud
The FDIC, Federal Reserve and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency issued on Monday a request for comment on potential actions to help consumers, businesses and financial institutions mitigate risks related to payments fraud, particularly check fraud.
“Because payments fraud may involve multiple institutions and payment methods, no single agency or private-sector entity can address payments fraud on its own,” the agencies said in a joint statement. “Therefore, the agencies are seeking public comment on discrete actions, collectively or independently, to mitigate payments fraud, including check fraud, within their respective bank regulation and payments authorities.”
The agencies are seeking public feedback on five potential areas “for improvement and collaboration.” They are:
- External collaboration among the agencies, Fed Banks and industry stakeholders.
- Consumer, business and industry education by the agencies and Fed Banks related to payments fraud.
- Regulation and supervision to mitigate payments fraud, including opportunities the Fed and FDIC boards may have related to check fraud.
- Payments fraud data collection and information sharing.
- Fed Banks’ operator tools and services to reduce payments fraud.
The agencies added they will also continue looking for additional opportunities to collaborate across other state and federal agencies to mitigate payments fraud.
Service Oklahoma provides updated resources for upcoming ELT issuance
To help you prepare for the implementation of electronic title issuance next month, Service Oklahoma has provided updated resources.
As a reminder, starting July 1, Service Oklahoma will issue titles in an electronic format with limited exceptions noted here. Licensed dealers will continue to receive paper titles by default unless they opt in to electronic titles. The transition to electronic titles does not mandate electronic lien filing. Lienholders will continue to have the option to process lien transactions in person, by mail or electronically.

OBA education corner …
The egos of famous musicians can be amusing sometime. Some of us here were at a local vinyl store this weekend and came across this gem from ’70s band Bachman-Turner Overdrive. The addition of the words, “So Far” at the bottom of the greatest hits album tickled our funny bones! While BTO is a perfectly solid band – Takin’ Care of Business and You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet are staples of any classic rock station – the addition of “S0 Far” when this album was released in 1976 seems a little … overly optimistic? If only we could go back in time and tell them something along the lines of “Mr. Bachman and Mr. Turner, love ya, but I wouldn’t really bank on another round of hits. Just saying!” While you roll on down the highway with Randy Bachman and friends, make sure to be aware of upcoming continuing education opportunities for you and your staff!
