Just some random tidbits that might be of interest to our bankers this week!

The state legislature finished its session last week, but not without some 11th-hour drama! One of our own bills, SB 1083, was a small part of said drama as it was one of several dozen Gov. Stitt vetoed. The bill puts rules and regulations in place for the crypto/bitcoin ATM industry. The veto ended up being moot as the legislature overrode it without much drama. A multitude of other veto overrides ended the session on Thursday night.
A great recap of the last few hours of the session can be found at NonDoc.com.

Currently, I’m in Colorado Springs for the Central States Conference. There’s a great lineup of speakers over the next couple of days here at the Broadmoor resort, but I’m most looking forward to a chance to chatting with my peers from nearby states!

I think OU is STILL scoring runs against my Nebraska baseball team as we speak! The Sooners’ offense ran roughshod over the Cornhuskers in the NCAA Tournament this weekend, scoring 24 runs in two games while single-handedly eliminating my Big Red. Oh well, Nebraska was a surprise participant anyway after coming out of nowhere to win the Big Ten Conference Tournament to qualify.
That does it for the 2024-25 college sports season, as far as I’m concerned. I guess it’s up to the Chicago Cubs to keep my summer interesting … and they’re doing a bang-up job of it so far!
FDIC issues regulatory relief guidance for Oklahoma, other states
The FDIC released guidance on Monday with steps intended to provide regulatory relief to financial institutions and facilitate recovery in seven states recently affected by natural disasters, including the wildfires in Oklahoma earlier in the spring.
The agency encouraged banks in affected areas to work constructively with borrowers experiencing difficulties, including extending repayment terms, restructuring existing loans or easing terms for new loans. The agency said banks may receive favorable Community Reinvestment Act consideration for community development loans, investments and services in support of disaster recovery. The FDIC also will consider regulatory relief from certain filing and publishing requirements.
The states are (Arkansas had two disaster declarations):
- Kentucky – Federal disaster declaration issued on April 24.
- Arkansas – Federal disaster declaration issued on May 8.
- Arkansas – Federal disaster declaration issued on May 21.
- Mississippi – Federal disaster declaration issued on May 21.
- Missouri – Federal disaster declaration issued on May 21.
- Oklahoma – Federal disaster declaration issued on May 21.
- Texas – Federal disaster declaration issued on May 21.
- Kentucky – Federal disaster declaration issued on May 23.
OBA Book Club announces next selection
The OBA Book Club’s next selection is Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara.
Today, every business can choose to be in the hospitality industry — and you don’t have to be a luxury business to do it. This book of lessons about both service and leadership learned over a career in hospitality celebrates the one principle that will never go out of season: the human desire to be taken care of. In this behind-the-scenes peek at the world of fine dining, Guidara shows us how to find the magic in what we do — for ourselves, the people we work with, and the people we serve.
To get involved in the OBA Book Club, please email Joan Anderson, and she will add you to the Book Club roster.
The next discussion will take place Tuesday, July 29. Details on time and location will be announced soon.

OBA education corner …
The OBA’s Sharon Lewis is not just a whiz in helping our bankers with issues on fraud, she also recently put up the coolest pieces of wall art in the OBA offices. Sharon managed to pack rat away ticket stubs to many concerts she’s gone to over the past decades, so she framed several of them in a shadow box. Look into the box and you’ll spot Crosby, Stills and Nash, Heart, Bad Company, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led FREAKIN’ Zeppelin(!) ticket stubs dating back to the 1970s!
So, next time you’re at the OBA offices for any upcoming live education opportunity, take an opportunity to sneak a peek into Sharon’s office! It’s just another good reason for you to take part in some upcoming continuing education opportunities for you and your staff!
