Just some random tidbits that might be of interest to our bankers this week!

I spent the weekend in lovely Fredericksburg, Texas, with my fellow CEOs from the Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota bankers associations. Between meetings and discussions about the industry, we were able to break away and check out Luckenbach, Texas. Unfortunately, we didn’t run into Waylon, Willie and the boys.

Last week’s Washington Visit was an unabashed success! We had great face-to-face meetings with many of the people who directly affect your industry. With so many bankers in attendance, those same people will know bankers are active in advocating for their industry.
I wanted to take a quick second to thank all our attendees, and also a special shout-out to our sponsors who helped make everything possible!

We’re just a smidge over a month away from the election! We have a vice presidential debate tonight between Tim Walz and J.D. Vance, and then we’ll hit the final sprint to ballot-casting time!

Nebraska got back on the winning side of things this week, although it took a while to pull the offense’s plow out of the ground. Still, even against maybe the worst team in the conference, a win is a win. I mean, just ask my OU friends about that!
Five bankers to make up 2024 class for Oklahoma Bankers Hall of Fame
The Oklahoma Bankers Hall of Fame today announced the five bankers who will be inducted into its 2024 class later this year.
Guy Berry III, Herschel Brewster, Brad Krieger, Gregg Vandaveer and Charles Vose Sr. will make up the 2024 class. The inductees were selected by a panel of bankers from across the state, and were voted on late last week.
The induction ceremony will be held Dec. 5 at the Oklahoma History Center. It will be hosted by the Oklahoma Bankers Association’s immediate past chair, Bryan Cain, who is also president and CEO of Sovereign Bank, in Shawnee.

OBA education corner …
The past few days have been rough ones, as far as celebrity deaths go. Maggie Smith, John Ashton, Kris Kristofferson, Dikembe Mutombo and, most recently, Pete Rose all passed away in the last week. While nearly everyone knows or is familiar with most of these names, it’s Ashton who can go a bit overlooked among the group. Anyone who watched “Midnight Run” can attest to what a wonderful character actor he is, and of course in Beverly Hills Cop, viewers couldn’t help but smile when Ashton did everything he could to not to bust out laughing when Eddie Murphy went on his famous “Supercops” ad lib! Don’t crack up laughing too hard, however, because we want you sober-faced when trying to decide what upcoming continuing education opportunities are right for you and your staff!
