Executive Update: Jack Mildren: banker and Oklahoma icon

 The Memorial Day Holiday was different this year.  On May 22, on our way back from a special board meeting in Cushing, Adrian called me and told me my friend, Jack Mildren, just lost his bout with cancer.  My friend and doctor, Nick Knutson, was with him when he died, trying to make Jack as comfortable as possible at the end as Oklahoma was losing a legend.

Solid legislative session comes to close

 The Second Session of the 51st Oklahoma Legislature concluded with several positive changes for banks and without enacting legislation that may be harmful to banking.

Brokered deposits causing concerns for regulators

 When it comes to issues that keep federal banking regulators awake at night, one of the items near the top of that list is a bank’s use of brokered deposits, according to FDIC Chairman Sheila Bair.

Farm Credit System tries end-run option

 In late April, the credit union lobby tried an end-run around the normal process of considering federal legislation and was beaten soundly by the banking industry.  In a similar fashion, Farm Credit System advocates – and the Farm Credit Administration in particular – sense that a similar possibility for the FCS to expand its base of operation may exist, this time in the form of new rules and regulations.
