You can help stop elder abuse
Did you know that seniors lose an estimated $6.2 billion of their hard-earned money each year due to elder financial abuse and exploitation? What can you as a consumer do to prevent this terrible crime?
On June 15, bankers participated in World Elder Abuse Awareness Day by distributing a new American Bank Association consumer education brochure designed to protect and educate older bank customers against financial abuse. The brochure, which was written and vetted by the ABA staff experts, includes the most current information on how to prevent, spot and address elder financial abuse. Also, this is a great brochure especially if abuse is suspected.
The ABA is spreading awareness of elderly abuse nationally. Visit your local bank to find out what they are doing to spread awareness and to learn more about what you can do to prevent this abuse.
